Case- Sarla Mudgal V. Union Of India 1995, Supreme Court.

Held-
Change of relegion does not permit any person to defeat the provision of law and it also does not give license to commit bigamy that's why any married person converts his or her relegion and contracts second marriage during the life of former spouse then he or she will be held liable for bigamy.

Case- Lily thomas V. UOI, 2000 SC.
Held- Supreme Court affirmed its earlier judgement of Sarla Mudgal.

Note- if the person with whom second marriage was solemnized was well known about marriage of his or her present spouse can be charged with abatement of bigamy.
